Caring for the carers is a discussion group which formed as a result of the Cloverdale Recovery course which dealt with addictions and compulsions. Quite often, those suffering with addiction are able to find good support while the those caring for them can find themselves isolated and alone.
Because of this Care for Carers exists in order to break this isolation and seeks to offer support rather than pushing judgments. Sometimes carers families and loved ones of those suffering with addictions feel they are responsible for their loved one’s behaviour and so it is of great comfort through the support and testimony of others in similar situations to know that they are not.
“The Care for the Carer group is a wonderful support group. The people that are a part of it, all know how we have felt over the years. It is just wonderful to feel safe and free to be able to discuss anything, to cry and laugh. Knowing the other people have had similar things happen in their lives. That they have felt as scared, uncertain, overwhelmed, and shamed, helps. It has been so humbling to be able to listen to others as they struggle with their day to day lives. It is very nice to be able to share how we have coped when the bad times hit us. This group has helped us immensely”.
AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contribution. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorse nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Please click the link for the AA website.
